Crowdsourcing social innovation: Towards a more collaborative & conscious capitalism

Crowdsourcing social innovation: Towards a more collaborative & conscious capitalism

The paradox of a global economy increasingly unified, and a global society increasingly divided is the most dangerous threat that weighs on the planet, because it makes difficult if not impossible, the cooperation necessary to solve the other problems. We need a bottom up, collaborative and open sourced approach, where people can actively participate in the development, implementation and replication of social good projects. I believe such ecosystem has the potential to accelerate the paradigm shift towards a more sustainable capitalism.

Social inequality is reflected in CO2 emissions, with the wealthy contributing the most while the poor consume the least. The failure of Paris COP goals can be attributed to this disparity, resulting in a 12% increase in global CO2 emissions since 2010, predominantly from affluent sectors.Despite promises, the Climate Fund, designed to safeguard non-CO2 emitting populations, particularly the poor, remains inadequately financed. Wealthy nations resist devaluing their fossil capital, tied to oil, coal, and gas, fearing it would disrupt their wealth structure, rooted in carbon production and consumption.Fossil energy played a crucial role in boosting work productivity and the profits of the world's wealthiest. The reluctance to embrace decarbonization stems from the potential erosion of their wealth foundations. The lifestyles associated with the American dream, European comfort, and consumption patterns in China or India heavily rely on carbon, contributing to the global crisis. As climate impacts intensify, the transfer of wealth from North to South to assist non-CO2 emitting populations faces challenges. The increasing social inequality in carbon consumption drives populations from the South to the North, leading to potential mass migrations. The looming question is the future response to this exodus, marked by anti-immigration policies and the rise of the extreme right in wealthy countries. A shift toward violence and unrest mirrors current events in Gaza, showcasing a potential rehearsal of the future. To avert this dark future, addressing climate change requires a united effort. Proposals include making COP plans binding, establishing global public powers for a decarbonized economy, restructuring the financial system, and issuing Special Drawing Rights to fund climate crisis mitigation and adaptation.Urgent actions such as discontinuing fossil fuel exploration contracts and advocating for a global fracking ban are essential. The path forward lies in unity among the poor and their collective struggle, emphasizing multilateralism, international law, and reforms to institutions like the United Nations. ... See MoreSee Less

Yesterday, our very own co-founder, Emanuele Musa, had the honor of moderating an insightful intrapreneurship panel at the Scaleup Summit in San Francisco, organized by Mind the Bridge. The conversation revolved around the innovative ways organizations leverage intrapreneurship to drive impact and growth. We're incredibly proud to share that several case studies were presented, showcasing how organizations are using the Babele platform to amplify their intrapreneurship programs.A big shoutout to Veronica B. from Artsana Group and Lauren Barredo from Sustainable Development Solutions Network for taking the stage and sharing their inspiring stories and case studies with us.Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the conversation. Let's keep pushing the boundaries of intrapreneurship together!#ssummit23 #intrapreneurship #innovation #babele ... See MoreSee Less

I had the amazing opportunity to join the conference Social Economy 2023– Building a stronger and resilient Europe as a panelist, where I engaged in a thought-provoking discussion on the fascinating topic of financing social innovation alongside esteemed stakeholders from across Europe. I believe we should revisit the whole funding model through an approach that leverages COLLECTIVE IMPACT. Without a centralized coordination among organizations working towards addressing social issues, our progress in finding effective solutions will remain limited. In other words, measuring money spent is not the correct success indicator. Let's take a remarkable example of collective impact in action: Cincinnati's Strive initiative (www.strivetogether.org). 🌟 This nonprofit subsidiary of KnowledgeWorks rallied together over 300 influential leaders from diverse organizations, including private foundations, corporations, government officials, education representatives, and advocacy groups. They recognized that fixing isolated points within the educational continuum wouldn't yield significant results unless every aspect improved in unison. πŸŽ“πŸ“šInstead of pursuing individual agendas, these visionary leaders embarked on a shared mission to coordinate improvements at every stage of a young person's life, from "cradle to career." 🌱✨ They didn't attempt to reinvent the wheel or solely advocate for increased funding. Instead, they meticulously structured their process, establishing a common set of goals and shared measurement practices. The participating organizations were grouped into Student Success Networks (SSNs), where they met regularly, exchanging insights, aligning efforts, and developing performance indicators to drive progress. πŸ“ˆπŸ”„The extraordinary success of Strive serves as a testament to the power of collective impactβ€”an approach that unites influential actors from diverse sectors, fostering a shared commitment to solving complex social problems. 🌍🀝 This is more than just collaboration; it's a structured initiative with a dedicated staff and centralized infrastructure. It emphasizes continuous communication, a common agenda, and mutually reinforcing activities, ensuring that everyone moves forward together. πŸš€πŸ’ͺWhile collective impact initiatives may be rare, they have proven to be effective in addressing multifaceted social issues that require widespread behavioral change. By aligning goals, measuring collective progress, and fostering collaboration across sectors, we can create lasting and impactful change, and maximise social return on investment. 🌟🌍✨ #CollectiveImpact #BuildingStrongerCommunities #SocialInnovation ...
